Superman and Batman films are character-based series, and Crystal Paark Cinemas’ Case 1: Finding Vajramuni of the Birbal Trilogy that releases today is part of Kannada cinema’s first character-based series. After Srinivasa Kalyana, filmmaker-actor MG Srinivas received several offers to star in rom-coms, but he wanted to break away from the genre. As someone who says he’s always open to experimenting, Srinivas came up with the idea of a dark, crime thriller, which he wanted to make into a character-based series. Thus, the Birbal Trilogy took shape.“The Birbal Trilogy has a lot of firsts — the first trilogy in Sandalwood, first 8D song, the first time scribble effect has been used for video, the first time that DI has been done by someone abroad, and the first time that VFX has been done in Canada for a Kannada film. The content, visualisation, making and thought are all fresh for Kannada audiences,” says Srinivas.
